About the page...
You may wonder why I decided to publish my own website. With the more than plentiful
abundance of such "personalized" homepages already on the web, why another one? Don't we already have enough pages of online
Facebooks, MySpaces, LiveJournals, diaries, Xangas, Buddy Profiles, Subprofiles and everything else? Is this page to be another
one of those pretentious, self-indulgent exercises in narcissism created by someone operating under the delusion that the
on average 6 million users who log onto the Internet each day could actually care to spend their time reading YOUR page?
Well, yes.
But let me explain. I don't expect that any significant majority of Internet users
will care to read about what I think.
What I've tried to do, in creating this site, is to compile information and
sources for the movie buffs and film fanatics of the world, of which I consider myself one of the biggest (if I
do say so myself).
My goal (and keep in mind this is a work in progress) is to compile the best film
sites on the web and list the links under appropriate categories in an organized manner.
I have to say upfront, just to avoid any disappointment later on, that I am not
the type of casual movie buff who considers THE MATRIX to be the most stylish and technically brilliant film ever made, or
Kevin Smith to be the paragon of wit. If you've come looking for the shrine built to the almighty Quentin Tarantino, you're
at the wrong party.
While these people and films have their places in the cinema, I am personally of
the mindset that there is a whole lot more out there. This page is emphatically not designed for people who only go to the
movies for a "good time" and who don't bother to sit through the credits.
The audience I hope that can get something out of this page are the people who
want to become well-versed in film and are actually beginning to realize there's more out there than what's currently playing
in the local megaplex.
I hope this site will serve as a guide through some of the most important foreign
films, as well as films from some of the most remote and obscure locations on the planet. It's a whole wide world out there,
and film can play a major part in the sharing of cultures.
Of course, I'm going to indulge in a few opinions here and there. I plan on frequently
adding new essays on different topics of the cinema.
And I also will have a page devoted solely to my particular favorite film genre:
Comedy.
Above all, I hope this site will be informative and interesting, and I'll try not
to come across as a completely pretentious narcissist whenever possible, I promise.
On that note, enjoy!
Several weeks ago, I came across a reading list for people studying philosophy. The list included the titles of recommended
reading, and books and authors. I decided to expand my website to include similar "reading lists" (or in this case, web lists)
on various topics that interest me. Among these are such subjects as literature (particularly the English classics and American
realism), Music (particularly classical and jazz), the stage, art, news and periodicals, travel information, education (college
ratings, for instance), and even one on dining.
These pages will simply list short descriptions of the websites, and the URL to that site described.
As with the strictly film-oriented portion of my site, my goal is not to just arbitrarily state my opinions, but to help
share and organize websites that I personally find interesting, and hope you may too.
