These are the great comedians whose work, in my opinion, trascended the medium and has stood the test of time.

This portion of my site breaks down the major epochs of screen comedy, from the silent era, up to roughly 1975 (anything after that date is just too new to really appreciate how it all fits in).

The Classic Era (1929-1940)

The War and Post-War Era (1941-1963)

The Rebirth of the Comic Auteur (1963-1975)

My criteria in listing these comedians is solely my own opinion. The criteria I looked for were consistency from film to film, comedians who did their primary work in film, and comedians who have stood the test of time and continue to make a major impact today.
