The American Cinema

The American Cinema is rightfully acknowledged as the most diverse and innovative in the world.

While we have our distinctly "American" filmmakers (Griffith, Ford, DeMille), we have also welcomed foreign talent who have created some of the most masterful works of art ever seen in the cinema, right in Hollywood (Murnau, Lang, Wilder, Lubitsch).

The goal of this page is to focus on more unexplored, unresearched, obscure areas of film.

More has already been written on every facet of the American cinema (by critics all over the world) then I could ever hope to do justice to here. Therefore, I will simply recommend some links to such sites which can elaborate on the different stars and directors and craftsmen better than I can in this space.

I will, however, provide an in-depth look at the major film genres inherent in American film.

Links include sites devoted to major filmmakers (in the interest of time I have omitted actors from the list); links to film institutes and archives of interest to American cinema; and links to pages detailing different film movements in the American cinema. I will cover each distinctly American film genre on a seperate page.
